Hostel

Insterburg is a self-governing hostel in Karlsruhe. That means the students do the organization – for example the accomodation agency – on their own. The higher administration is the Studentenwohnheim Karlsruhe e.V. The hostel belongs to this organization which decides on bigger plans. But everything else is decided by students.

Therefore we elect several students. They become the spokesmen of the house, a corridor or become tutor for different tasks, for example network, bar, photo laboratory, workshop, games or sport and the organisation of different houseparties.

The self-governing makes it possible to offer things which you normally don´t find in hostels. We have our own financial funds and that´s why the house occupants assembly can decide non-bureaucratically about new acquisitions. These meetings are once in a semester. We own a.o. table football, billiards, table tennis, piano, copier, sewing machine, projector and DVD player.

Besides is the guaranteed rent period ten terms and not six terms which is normally usual.

The self-governing depends on engagement of the house occupants. But nobody gets forced and mostly the work makes a lot of fun and a good opportunity to get known the other students.

If you want to visit us, you are welcome. You only have to consult our two house-spokesmen where you also can apply yourself for a room.
